For over 20 years he has been dealing with the treatment of patients with various types of diabetes in hospital and outpatient practice. Has, among others experience in managing patients with diabetes with cardiological complications, kidney diseases, treated with a personal insulin pump and women with gestational diabetes. Working from the beginning of his professional career in a wide-profile, multi-specialized hospital internal medicine department, he gained extensive experience in treating patients with internal medicine problems.
In the years 1993–1993 he was professionally associated with the Clinic of Allergology and Internal Diseases of the Medical Academy in Bydgoszcz. Since 1996, he has been working at the Provincial Integrated Hospital in Toruń – in the Department of Internal Diseases, and since 2008 in the Clinical Department of Nephrology, Diabetology and Internal Diseases. He is the author of a highly rated, innovative doctoral dissertation in the field of nephrology. For many years, he has actively participated in the work of scientific societies. He is a member of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine (for two terms he was on the board of the Bydgoszcz-Toruń Department) and a member of the Polish Diabetes Association. He published several dozen scientific papers in the field of diabetes, nephrology and internal medicine. He completed post-graduate studies in organization and management in health care. One of the main professional interests of Dr. Sławomir Badurek is the treatment of obesity using proprietary methods. Member of the Scientific Council of the “WE KNOW WHAT WE EAT” foundation.
Author of many articles and educational materials for diabetics, co-author of a scientific monograph on the treatment of diabetes in the elderly, author of the popular science book on coping with stress. Lecturer valued by patients and doctors. As part of social activities, in cooperation with the Toruń Branch of the Polish Association of Diabetics and the local Association of the Polish Association of the Blind, he prepared and gave many lectures on diabetes for patients suffering from physical disability caused by complications of diabetes and accompanying diseases. Among other things, he was awarded the Honorary Badge of Merit for the Polish Diabetes Association for this activity.
